A total of 12 homes located in Baton Rouge and New Orleans were tested for a period of a full year. The study found that from May to October, moisture penetrated into the homes, which coincides with the highest air conditioner usage.
The results of this study were very conclusive. Both foil-faced rigid foam and closed cell spray foam insulation performed very well and were able to keep moisture levels in the subfloor at “acceptable levels”. Other types of insulation, including fiberglass batt insulation and open cell spray foam, performed poorly and allowed moisture levels to rise in the subfloor.
