Subflooring Insulation from Mr. Green Jeans

From Mr. Green Jeans - Serving All of the Baton Rouge and New Orleans Metropolitan Areas

Are you looking for a subflooring insulation contractor in metro Baton Rouge or New Orleans? You’ve come to the right place!

Under the floor covering in your home (carpet, wood, vinyl, etc.) is the subfloor – the material that actually provides support for all the activities you do at home, whether you’re walking on a treadmill or relaxing in a recliner watching a movie after a long day at work.

In humid environments like Louisiana, your subfloor is at risk from a number of factors. It’s a major source of heat transfer, but it’s also one of the most likely points for moisture to enter a home. They can also suffer damage such as buckling and warping if not properly insulated.

Affordable Insulation Has Never Been Easier

Mr. Green Jeans specializes in Building Science Principles, Weatherization, Fiber Insulation, Spray foam insulation, Energy Audits and much more.

Subfloor Insulation with Mr. Green Jeans

At Mr. Green Jeans, we have years of experience insulating homes and businesses with the highest-quality products available. We’ve tested and installed all types of insulation, and we’ve discovered that some outperform others by a significant amount, particularly when it comes to moisture penetration.

In a study conducted by the LSU Agricultural Center in which we installed spray foam insulation, various types of subfloor insulation were tested in a conventional raised construction home (with a crawlspace under the home). Moisture penetration was the primary focus of the study.

A total of 12 homes located in Baton Rouge and New Orleans were tested for a period of a full year. The study found that from May to October, moisture penetrated into the homes, which coincides with the highest air conditioner usage.

The results of this study were very conclusive. Both foil-faced rigid foam and closed cell spray foam insulation performed very well and were able to keep moisture levels in the subfloor at “acceptable levels”. Other types of insulation, including fiberglass batt insulation and open cell spray foam, performed poorly and allowed moisture levels to rise in the subfloor.

Why Does Moisture Content Matter?

We know that, unless you’re in the construction industry or have experience installing insulation in homes and businesses, it might be difficult to understand why moisture penetration matters. It all comes down to the fact that moisture penetrating your home through the subfloor can have a seriously detrimental effect on your home, its contents, and even your health.

High moisture levels foster the growth of mold, mildew and fungi that can rot wood and fabric, and cause health concerns, such as aggravating asthma and COPD, as well as a host of others.

By preventing the influx of moisture from under your home during the warmer month of the year, you not only help ensure a more comfortable interior, but reduce decay to your home and belongings, and avoid health implications.

Save up to 70% on your energy bills.

Our Subfloor Insulation

At Mr. Green Jeans, we strive to offer only the highest quality products on the market. For this reason, we install 2-pound, closed cell spray foam insulation within open crawlspaces, wall-vented crawlspaces and closed crawlspaces.

This type of spray foam insulation was indicated as outperforming all but foil-backed board-type insulation in the LSU study.

Pound for pound, this is the best insulation on the market in terms of R-value, as well, helping ensure that your home or business uses less energy throughout the year, while remaining as comfortable as possible.
